The photograph shows a negotiation table in the middle of a blue pavilion, standing on the border between North and South Korea – a symbolic place where one nation stretches across two hostile sides. At the table stand two armed North Korean soldiers, motionless and staring intently at the tabletop, as if searching in that wooden surface for the faintest trace of hope – a door through which peace might slip into a single nation divided by ideology, wall and history.
