This wasn't the first time Lin Xiaowei had visited this massive aquarium. She always came alone on Friday evenings, when the crowds had thinned, to stand before this gargantuan acrylic wall. The lights here were dim; the only source of radiance was that boundless, breathtaking expanse of azure. She enjoyed standing there, imagining herself as a fish that had no need for breath. In the photograph, her silhouette appears somewhat solitary, yet exceptionally peaceful. She pressed her right hand against the cool glass, as if seeking a cross-species connection. A large stingray glided gracefully toward her, its wide, wing-like fins brushing past the glass, leaving a fleeting shadow against her palm. In that moment, she felt a pulse—cold yet oddly tender. She often wondered if the fish on the other side of the glass looked at her as if she were the artificial exhibit. Within this vast, man-made deep-sea dreamscape, everyone is an island; only when fingertips touch the glass can one feel a silent, wordless connection. Xiaowei didn't take a photo or reach for her phone. She simply stood still, allowing the blue to swallow her silhouette, becoming part of this grand underwater narrative. At this moment, it wasn't an exhibition—it was her soul breathing in another dimension.
