Soyots are an indigenous small-numbered people living in Russia in the west of Buryatia in a mountainous area along the banks of the Oka river. Currently, there are about 3,500 of them in total. Over the past two decades, soyots have been actively engaged in the revival of Soyot culture and folk art traditions. A distinctive occupation of soyot livestock breeders is the breeding of yaks on the Oka plateau.
