Japanese macaques have a territory for each group. The monkeys in the photo have territories in the mountains, including temples near people's houses. Currently, about 1,000 monkeys live in the nearby mountains. The monkeys have a controlled social life, and they show me various actions and expressions. This place makes it easy to observe the ecology of wild monkeys, making it a valuable place for research on wild monkeys.
