Monolithic These three images are taken at the Taal Monument situated in Paarl in Southern Africa. The monument was officially opened in 1975 and commemorates the Afrikaans language of South Africa as a separate entity to Dutch. I found the monuments sculptural lines, scale and architectural style enigmatic. With these images I have sought to convey an outer-worldly feel, a place of worship in another universe, ancient or futurist. The photos have been processed in black and white as I feel the monochromatic tonality enhances the surreal as well as keeping in line with the minimalistic theme of the series.
