This is my wife's granddad's house. Four generations have lived there, but the house and barn have remained the same. We don't know who owns the place now but farming still takes place. This house and barn are very typical of rural houses at the end of the 1800s. They had steep roofs for the snow and were small to facilitate heating during winter. These were not fancy houses, but they were full of love and accommodated large families. They were particularly welcoming during Christmas and New Year parties with uncles, aunts, and cousins. Many still call that period "The Good Old Days" where life was simple and at the pace of nature. It is to convey this feeling of nostalgia that I waited for a grey snowy day to photograph the place. To illustrate souvenirs that are far away, I opted for a minimalist frame with a lot of empty space and only small views of the barn and house. I was inspired by the famous Canadian painter Jean-Paul Lemieux who is recognized for such scenes.
