"This is from Matilda" is a still life photography series inspired by "Léon: The Professional", a movie that deeply touched me in my childhood and has significantly influenced my artistic journey. In this series, I aim to highlight critical issues such as war, the value of human life, emigration, social unrest, and the impacts of a broken childhood. By capturing the film's vivid colors and memorable scenes, my goal is to encapsulate the distilled essence of the movie while reflecting, both conceptually and ironically, on the current state of the world. The set design, featuring simple objects with profound meanings, allows me to create scenes that are both conceptual and contradictory. Each image transcends mere representation, embodying the core of the characters and a slice of reality. An ever-present brick symbolizes urban life, the secrets behind walls, the devastation of never-ending war, and the shelters we seek – or escape from. The series, named after the famous movie quote, is constructed as if each scene were indeed a real legacy of Matilda. More than a tribute; it's a resonant and contemporary echo. I believe in the power of photography to raise awareness about social issues and hope this series resonates meaningfully with viewers.
