SPIRIT OF THE PARK

Echo Park in Los Angeles, California has a magical quality after dark. I chose this location on purpose because of the wonderful visual layers as a backdrop for my concept. Beautiful night city skyline, towering fountain, electric swan boats constantly on the move, and of course the water reflecting all of this. I was fortunate that my talent Faleena Hopkins had an acting background and really brought a lot to the table as far as her actions. To achieve a mystical look I chose to use the "painting with light" technique. (long exposures combined with the use of specialized flashlights). Was great fun as each photograph was unique to itself. What made this process of in camera shooting was that I was not a passive observer but an active participant.
