Feelings of elation are building as we approach the shore of the lake. I get to hear the ice crunch under skates. I get to strap on the blades for the first time during the short wild ice-skating season. I wait in anticipation of what unique features nature has created this year. Once the “work of photography” is done, we strap on the skates and revert back to our childhood. We skate, pass the puck and just be silly kids at times. This day was no different. After play and work, we packed our gear and started walking back to the car. We wandered through the aspens that were swimming in the lake just a few weeks ago. A rather bizarre feature caught my attention as I walked by. A flat piece of ice hangs onto the aspens, supported by ice pedestals. I could not pass up this opportunity, so I set my gear down and yelled out to my friends at the car I would be a few minutes late. How could I pass up this rare opportunity to photograph a table-like ice structure between three trees? I set myself down on the ice and snow nearby and set up to highlight not only the table and trees but also the contours and curves of the pedestals. A so Table for Three came to life. Would you not love to eat at this table?
