The gear for the day spreads out along the roadside like a bomb went off. The uncertainty of what we will find lights the fire in our bellies. Excitement for the day building as we pack our equipment. We are setting off on one of my top two mountain activities, exploring for and in ice caves. As we set off, a loud boom echoes through the valley, we look up, and well off in the distance, an avalanche of ice and snow explodes down the mountainside. What an excellent site to see and get the excitement building. After watching this spectacle, we set off on our adventure to find ice caves which led to the capture of Nature’s Sculpture. After exploring the left side of the glacial moraine, we decided to spend some time resting, eating our lunch, and basking in the warmth of the mid-day sun. As we ate, we watched mini avalanches cascade down the mountainside. Better than the tv entertainment at home. Once we finished our succulent power bars and jam sandwiches, we explored the right side of the moraine. Almost at the toe of the glacier, we discovered this massive snow sculpture pinned between two pieces of ice. We had to crawl under it to continue to advance. After safely doing so, I turned onto my belly. I was flabbergasted by the curves, patterns, and contours of what nature had sculpted. I knew I had to capture this moment, for it would be gone soon when the warm weather arrived. And so, Nature’s Sculpture was created.
