August, summertime. The ice is mostly gone, and polar bears move from Island to Island up north hundreds of miles away from town, Ellesmere Island, Canada. This time, we saw this rare view of one female and her two cubs, at least 18 months old, together, thefamily entered the water from one island toward the next one. The moment was too precious; we entered the water from our position, facing the arriving bears 200 meters away. The safety diver and I waited for the bear family to arrive at our position. We traded water for over 25 minutes, all along the bears were swimming toward us, we continued trading water looking at family getting closer toward us. The female Polar bear knew precisely where we were, at all time, we were not a threat to her and her cubs, We remain in one place and allow the bears to make their own move. When the family of bears was 7 meters in front of us, my safety diver and I submerged to 5 meters below, and the family of three, mother and two cubs, just past over our heads; I raised my camera overhead hoping to capture the three pairs of eyes looking at me, perhaps these Apex predator were bewilder at our present as we were, by thier peacful curiosity . We remain in one place, astonished and elated by the encounter as the family continues in peace on their own direction...
