In Echoes in Blue, I revisit the eternal city of Rome through the cyanotype process—an alternative photographic technique developed in the 19th century. This hand-coated, contact-printed image captures a street view of the Spanish Steps, inviting the viewer into a world suspended between the ancient and the contemporary. The cyanotype medium, with its deep Prussian blues and organic imperfections, becomes more than a stylistic choice—it is a deliberate act of transformation. The image is not simply a documentation of a place, but a reconstruction of memory, where brushstroke edges, tonal compression, and tactile texture blur the boundary between photograph and object. Rome, a city layered with history, becomes a visual echo chamber in this work—its architecture and presence refracted through time, imagination, and process. By employing a medium rooted in the photographic past, I attempt to reframe the present not as a fixed reality, but as a fleeting resonance of accumulated eras. Echoes in Blue is both a homage and an inquiry—a meditation on how places live within us not as fixed images, but as reverberations shaped by experience, material, and memory.
