Aureate I

I created Aureate I as a study in restraint and simplicity, focusing on how presence and structure alone can convey strength. The image features Lancero, a double perlino stallion, photographed in a quiet moment without movement or overt gesture. Rather than capturing action, I chose to emphasize stillness, allowing his posture and expression to define the portrait. Lancero’s relaxed but attentive stance highlights the natural lines of his neck and shoulder. I was drawn to the clarity of his form and the way strength is visible through subtle structure rather than tension. A dark, uncluttered background removes any sense of location, keeping the viewer’s focus entirely on the horse. This minimal approach was intentional, reinforcing the idea that the subject does not need context to hold attention. The rhinestones placed in his mane and along his face were used sparingly and with purpose. Referencing the title Aureate, meaning “made of gold,” they serve as a quiet visual accent rather than a focal point. The goal was to suggest value and respect without overpowering the natural character of the horse. Aureate I reflects my approach to equine portraiture as a balance between strength and calm. By stripping the image down to its essentials, I aimed to show that stillness can be just as compelling as motion, and that presence alone can carry an image.
