The Witch's Looking-Glass

In the so-called 'Witch's Wood' on the island of Rügen, I seek not a fairytale backdrop, but the precise moment where perception falters. A mirror-still body of water overlays the forest: the reflection and the physical woods appear equally valid, disrupting traditional order. Trunks become columns and the forest floor transforms into a ceiling—a visual puzzle that 'bewitches' the viewer’s gaze. Crucially, this effect is achieved entirely in-camera through a single exposure, with the only post-capture adjustment being a 180-degree rotation of the frame. By inverting the perspective, the work serves as a silent testament to how easily our worldviews can shift. Through the lush, original green of life, the photograph invites a deeper contemplation of our subjective reality and the hidden symmetries within nature.
