Japan is currently experiencing a serious rice shortage and rising rice prices. Rice, the staple food of the Japanese people, is a part of our culture and an essential part of our daily lives. Our diet is possible thanks to rice farmers who produce rice every day, despite being caught up in all sorts of circumstances. Rice farmers in northern Japan in particular get to work quickly, starting with clearing the snow that has accumulated over four months. They work tirelessly to clear and melt snow from vast swathes of land. Grateful that we can once again eat rice today, I take photos.
