River Variations

For more than 10 years, I have been returning with my camera to the same place on the Berounka River in Central Bohemia (on the left bank of the river near the town of Dobrichovice, where I live), where the stones at the bottom of the river create small streams on the surface. I go there under various conditions—at different times of day and night, in different seasons, when the water level varies, and under different lighting conditions—and take long-exposure photographs (usually lasting several minutes), sometimes in the visible (with strong ND filters) or infrared (IR filters) parts of the spectrum. My goal is to create a series of 30 visual photovariations as an analogy to Bach’s musical variations, ideally in such a way that it is not apparent that all the photos were taken within just a few square meters. The presented series of 7 images (from 2021 - 2025 period) is a subset of the entire long-term project.
