1. Can you introduce yourself and talk about how you got into photography?

Hi, my name is Jackie Alpers and I am a food photographer and author of The Unofficial Yellowstone Cookbook, and Taste of Tucson. I first got into food photography while working as a publicist at a health resort.

2. Where did you study photography?

I studied photography at the Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio.

3. Do you remember your first shot? What was it?

My first shot was of my little brother crouching in the driveway sucking his thumb, our family station wagon was parked in the garage behind him. I took it with a Mickey Mouse 110 camera at the grocery store that came loaded with black and white film. I was 7 or 8.

4. What equipment do you use?

I use a Canon 5Ds and prime lenses, including the 100 and 50 macros.

5. What do you hope to achieve?

I hope to continue to achieve an ongoing and sustainable career.

6. What compliment inspired/touched you the most?

I'm touched by every compliment.

7. What THREE (3) words describe your photography style?

Dynamic, colorful, fun.

8. Congratulations! As the winner of the London Photography Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?

Thank you! It's a huge honor and I'm thrilled! I'm so excited to share the Unofficial Yellowstone cookbook with the world in October, 2023.

9. Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2023 London Photography Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?

I wrote and photographed The Unofficial Yellowstone Cookbook which was inspired by visually striking, dramatic and conceptually captivating hit television series Yellowstone, an updated American Western that takes place in Montana and Texas. The photographs illustrate my recipes in the cookbook which were inspired by the region as well as the series storyline.
