1. Can you introduce yourself and talk about how you got into photography?

My name is Eliyan Cohen, and my passion for photography began in my childhood. As I grew older and pursued my studies at university, I transitioned into professional photography, honing my skills and turning my lifelong interest into a career.

2. Where did you study photography?

I began my photography journey as a teenager in Iran, and later continued to evolve as a photographer in New York, United States, expanding my horizons and exploring new facets of the craft.

3. Do you remember your first shot? What was it?

Yes, I do remember!

It was a colored photograph from an art book, featuring a hand as part of the composition. I was responsible for all the scene's positioning and arrangements, essentially engaging in a form of stage photography to create this piece.

4. What equipment do you use?

Used to do analogue but I am using a Digital now.

5. What do you hope to achieve?

I hope to become an international photographer someday!

6. What compliment inspired/touched you the most?

I don't think it as a compliment, but the nature around is what really could be the inspiration.

7. What inspires your unique storytelling?

In my projects and research, I'm deeply captivated by what I like to call the 'phenomenon law of nature.' It's this beautiful, intricate tapestry of patterns and sequences that nature effortlessly unveils.

8. What THREE (3) words describe your photography style?

Quickness, nature and passion!

9. Congratulations! As the winner of the London Photography Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?

It's a pleasure that my photograph was selected as one of the Honourable Mentions at the London Photography Awards! Much appreciated to the team as well as the jury!

10. Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2023 London Photography Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?

My artwork, titled "Whatever," captures the juxtaposition of human constructions against the enveloping natural landscape. This piece explores the complex relationship between our creations and the nature that frames them.

11. How has winning an award developed your career?

It's a significant accomplishment in my career.

12. Name 1-3 photographers who have inspired you.

Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and Michael Kenna.

13. What was the best piece of advice you were given starting out, by a mentor or your role model?

When you get along with your subject, you will understand them a lot better and eventually it will lead you to amazing results in your photography!

14. What advice would you give someone who would like to become a photographer today?

Before you move into the photography world, you have to know yourself first; what you love and what you inspire to be. I wish them the best of luck!

15. What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?

Do not give up easily and believe in yourself.

16. How do you stay in that space of being receptive to new information and knowledge?

I usually turn to social media to continue being in a receptive state of mind! I find that it greatly helps in my photography.
