Photographer's Profile
United Kingdom
Yu Wang is a UK-based Chinese photographer whose work blends documentary precision with poetic visual storytelling. With a Master’s degree in Cultural Heritage Management from the University of Sheffield, her artistic vision is deeply informed by a sensitivity to memory, place, and identity. Originally from Datong, Shanxi Province, Yu has spent the past several years capturing narratives across both China and the United Kingdom. Her images often center around themes of cultural transformation, solitude, and the quiet resilience of everyday life. Whether documenting the fading echoes of mining towns in northern China or celebrating the vibrancy of Chinese traditions abroad, her lens always seeks to preserve the essence of fleeting moments. Yu’s photographs have been featured in international exhibitions and recognized by prestigious awards, including the Monet International Art Prize (Photography Gold Award, 2024) and the China Dragon Award (Silver Prize, 2023). Her recent exhibitions include the 2025 Sheffield Lunar New Year Photography Exhibition, the Lishui International Photography Festival, and the Pingyao Festival of Photography. She is also a contributing photographer for cultural events such as the World Snooker Championship and has served as the official photographer for the Sheffield Chinese New Year Gala from 2023 to 2025.
