Øyvind Hjelmen lives and works on the island of Stord, off the west-coast of Norway. He is a fine art photographer specializing in hand-printed black and white gelatin silver prints, hand-bound artist books and portfolios, small, matchbox-sized portfoilos, and larger format unique photograms. He holds a BA in modern art and aesthetics from the University of Bergen. Hjelmen has worked with photography for more than 30 years. His works have been exhibited in 15 countries and are held in a number of public and private collections, including the Worcester Art Museum, Massachusetts, USA and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, USA. He has also published eight books, the two latest being Broken Shadow (Kehrer Verlag, Heidelberg 2022), and Being Here (Skeleton Key Press) in November 2024. Øyvind Hjelmen is also co-director and curator for Sunnhordland Museum´s Artist-in-Residence program at Halsnøy monastery, Norway.
