The gigantic plume of smoke from the Villarrica volcano frightens the locals. On cold winter nights, the lava pit illuminates the gases and ash escaping from the crater, forming ghostly silhouettes that are quite unsettling. Villarrica is the most dangerous volcano in Chile and one of the most active in the Americas.
